Development Services is responsible for the coordination, plan check and construction inspection of all public improvements built by residential and commercial development projects in the City of Galt. Development Services also reviews and places conditions on applications for maps and environmental documentation. Development applications are reviewed for consistency with standards and specifications in regards to water, sewer, storm drainage, streets and traffic circulation patterns. Development Services processes and checks all subdivision maps, parcel maps, lot line adjustments and all legal property description changes. Development Services assists applicants and reviews encroachment permits, grading permits, and hydrant permits. Development Services also reviews projects to ensure consistency with the new development stormwater quality requirements and erosion and sediment control standards for storm water protection.
An encroachment permit is required for any construction or excavation in the City’s street, road or highway, or other right-of-way (including easements dedicated to the city) in the city. If you are submitting a building permit with a valuation greater than $20,000, you may be required to get an encroachment permit.
A grading permit is required for any disturbance (excluding agricultural operations) where the volume of material graded is more than fifty (50) cubic yards or the depth of cuts and fills is greater than two feet.
