The C Street Enhancements project area contains the portion of C Street starting at Civic Drive near the Highway 99 off-ramp to 6th Street.
The proposed enhancements include various roadway improvements along with protected bike lanes, landscaping and decorative hardscape features. The proposed enhancements will promote multi-modal transportation and increase safety for all users of the corridor. Public feedback is being solicited before the exact design and features of these improvements are determined.
The total budget for the project is currently estimated at $3.7 million. Funding is comprised of $2.5 million Community Design Funds from the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) and $1.2 million from local transportation funds.
Community Involvement
The City of Galt recognizes the importance of public input and community engagement in impactful projects such as this. As such, the City held a number of community workshops to gather feedback from residents and stakeholders during the project design and planning phase. The work being done in 2024 reflects the input provided by Galt’s residents and business community. An overview of the events and feedback received from the public is summarized below.
Community Workshop & Walking Tour: The first community event was held on Thursday, July 22, 2021. The City of Galt hosted a walking tour along C Street, followed by a community open house to solicit feedback from participants. During these events, community members were given the opportunity to share their thoughts on the opportunities and challenges experienced along the corridor, through a variety of activities. More than 35 community members attended either the walking tour, community open house, or both events. A summary of the events and feedback received from the public is available for review here.
Community Workshop #2: A second workshop was held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at the Chabolla Community Center. During this workshop, the design team revealed two conceptual designs developed as a result of input received during the first community open house and walking tour. The two options can be viewed in the links provided below. The presentation from Workshop #2 is available for review here.
