Deferred Compensation
The City has partnered with TIAA to offer a 457 deferred compensation plan. “457 Plans” for public employees are similar to the more familiar “401(k) Plans” offered by private employers. You can elect to set aside part of your income each year into a personal tax-advantaged savings account. This is a tax-deferred personal retirement plan (separate from pension) which allows employees to save money towards their retirement.
You can put funds into your account by authorizing a payroll deduction, which will come out of your pay pre-tax. When you leave employment with the City, whether for retirement or for any other reason, you take your account with you. To elect a 457 Plan please contact Human Resources by phone at (209)-366-7103 or by email at HR@cityofgalt.org
