The primary mission of the Human Resources Department is to partner with all City departments in the recruitment, retention, and development of qualified and productive employees. The Human Resources Department oversees the City’s recruitment and selection process, employee and labor relations, equal employment opportunity, health plan administration, maintenance of personnel records, risk management efforts, and employee training and development.  The Human Resources programs include:

  • Recruitment and Selection– Works closely with departments to assess departmental staffing needs and coordinates the application, testing, and selection process to recruit the most qualified candidates. In addition, HR serves as a liaison between candidates and departments as well as oversees the evaluation and promotional process.
  • Employee and Labor Relations – Provides orderly procedures for the administration of employer-employee relations and agreements between the City management and the City’s employee organizations and for resolving disputes regarding wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
  • Compensation and Classification Administration – Responsible for the effective and efficient administration of the City of Galt’s classification and compensation systems.
  • Employee Benefits Administration – Comprehensive employee benefits program includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as retirement plans and an employee assistance plan.
  • Risk Management – Responsible for creating a safe work environment for employees and a safe City for its citizens by administering safety training and OSHA mandated programs, assuring safe and healthy work environments, administering liability insurance programs, and responding to citizen and employee safety concerns.
  • Employee Training and Development - Provide standardized and specialized training and development opportunities for employees. 
  • Personnel Records – Administration and retention of employee personnel and medical records which are subject to compliance with the law and high standards of confidentiality.
