The City of Galt is beginning a comprehensive update to the General Plan. State law requires cities to periodically review and update their General Plans to ensure they reflect current needs and priorities.

The General Plan update process includes extensive community engagement with workshops, surveys, and public meetings. The City’s goal is to hear from as many community members as possible to ensure the General Plan reflects the needs, priorities, and vision of Galt residents. Opportunities for engagement will be posted on the website throughout the update process.

The City of Galt’s Community Development Department is pleased to release a request for proposals (updated July 23, 2026) from qualified professional firms to prepare the 2050 General Plan.

The Community Development Department consists of the Planning Division, the Building Division, and the Code Compliance Division. All three divisions rely on and enforce certain titles of the Galt Municipal Code. 

The Planning Division provides assistance on General Plan implementation, guidance on zoning and land use issues, and ensures development project applications are in line with the Galt Municipal Code and County/State regulations. 

The Building Division manages building permit applications and inspections, provides assistance for building safety issues, and reviews tenant improvement applications.

The Code Compliance Division works with property owners and tenants to ensure compliance with the Galt Municipal Code in relation to private property issues. The Code Compliance Division does not handle emergency situations.
