In 2022, the City engaged hundreds of residents to solicit input on their community priorities. Residents indicated they were interested in maintaining services to parks and recreation and wanted to ensure that our City was well maintained.

As a result of this feedback, the Galt City Council placed Measure Q – the City of Galt Essential Services Measure - on the November 8, 2022 Municipal Election ballot for voter consideration. Measure Q, a local one-cent sales tax, passed by a majority vote in the 2022 Municipal Election.  Funding generated by Measure Q expands the amount of locally controlled funding available for City services.

After placing Measure Q on the November ballot, Galt City Council adopted a Spending Priorities Resolution regarding the use of revenue generated by Measure Q.

The resolution prioritizes spending of revenue generated by Measure Q as follows:

 - Parks & Recreation: Revenue generated by the Measure will be used for parks and recreation, including (i) maintenance and improvements to facilities, structures, and property at all City parks and recreation facilities and (ii) recreational programming support for community events, or other recreational programming for adults and youth.

 - Landscaping, Weed Abatement, and Blight Prevention of City Property: Revenue generated by the Measure will be used for landscaping maintenance purposes, inclusive of weed abatement and blight prevention on publicly-maintained property throughout the City, including landscaping areas and at all parks and other areas of the City, as deemed necessary by the City Council.

As a "general tax," the current City Council, or any future City Council, could direct at any time that any revenues raised by this tax be spent on any governmental services, including 911 emergency response services, public safety, crime prevention, homelessness, or any other priorities and services requested by the community and/or deemed necessary by the Council. A change in the spending priorities would require a vote of the City Council.

Measure Q expenditures are subject to public disclosure of spending and independent audits. Measure Q does not apply to groceries or prescription medications.
