The Galt Youth Commission (GYC) is comprised of 12 high school students appointed by the City Council to serve as youth advocates and champion community service. The purpose of the Galt Youth Commission is to encourage the youth to participate in activities, stimulate community service, build civic unity, collaborate, and interact with the Galt community.
Being part of the Galt Youth Commission is a great commitment. Each member will need to attend one meeting per month (first Monday of every month), 6:30 pm, participate in events, model leadership, and participate in subcommittees which require attending additional meetings. They will also receive community service hours and letters of recognition at the end of their term. It is extremely important that the youth are able to commit and attend a majority of the meetings and events during his/her two-year term. Commissioners are also required to attend summer activities including a retreat. Their term begins this May.
Any current 8th grade through 11th grade students living within the Galt High School District boundaries are eligible to apply.
